Database of Evidence Based Best Practices
Projects are based upon a series of building block activities that have shown scientific evidence of having worked and are called Evidence-Based Best Practices. They provide effective grassroots solutions to needs identified by rural communities. The individual activities in this database can be combined into families of activities called projects.
Here are activities arranged by category:
| Community Participation Directory. Taking the time to develop relationships and facilitate community-identified needs assessments can uncover causes behind challenges faced by community members, create long-lasting impact, and develop community ownership and sustainability. | |
| Water and Sanitation Directory. Diarrhea kills 1.8mm people/year. Randomized trials show water filters reduce diarrhea 40% to 50%, latrines 36%. Community Water Systems studies find little evidence of health impacts. Expensive, they may provide contaminated water & fall into disrepair. | |
| Health and Hygiene Directory. Information on health and hygiene is often in short supply. Field staff need the tools to promote nutritious foods, safe water, kitchen hygiene, personal hygiene, and smoke free kitchens. In this section field staff will find the manuals, lesson plans and How-To cards they need. | |
| Leading Community Workshops Directory. Introducing new information into sustainable community development projects is more effective when two-way communication bridges the boundaries. This section discusses knowledge transfer, lesson plans, training trainers, and facilitating workshops. | |
| Background Information Directory. What is impact? What are outcomes? Evidence-based best practices? Sustainable development? This section provides background information on these topics and others. | |
