Community Workshops
Promoters who have received training from their NGO Trainers will be prepared to begin offering workshops to End–Users in communities. Promoters will have access to lesson plans for End-User workshops.
Lesson Plans are found under each activity and Project Example heading. Promoters will also be trained to facilitate Participatory Needs Assessments with community members in order to focus on needs prioritized by the community; this will lead to sustainable projects.
First steps to approach the members of the community:
The activities in the community are initiated by informing, sensitizing and motivating the authorities and the community about the objectives of the Participatory Needs Assessment. The first contacts in the community are made with local leaders, influential people, and teachers.
Providing training to the community
Once the authorities commit their support and active participation in the participatory process, the community can be approached through:
1. Meetings with different groups which exist in the community such as mothers groups, youth groups, agricultural groups and community banks.
2. General community gatherings: the size of the group should not exceed 30 people. If the community is larger, they should be split into smaller groups for training.
During the group gatherings the awareness building process is initiated through using the participatory problem analysis and solution finding methods. Awareness building and behavior change can be a long-term process.
